The son of the Philippines’ former dictator Ferdinand Marcos has announced he will be running for president next year. Ferdinand Marcos Junior, popularly known as Bongbong, will be among eight candidates vying to succeed President Rodrigo Duterte.
Marcos’ father ruled the Philippines for 20 years until he was overthrown in 1986. CEO of Rappler, Maria Ressa, says the announcement isn’t a shock.
